Skulptur Projekte Münster

1977
Declined 2 sculptures that where gifts.
The artist got big.
They bought a sculpture and put in on the wrong spot in the city. The msuseum did an exhibition about sculptures.

König got in the picture and he invited big artists. (Serra and others) Of which one British, Richard Long.

Claes Oldenburgh he had put giant concrete golf balls all over the city, on the spots were the city Münster was bombed. This is now a city emblem and stands for the 'open' city of Münster. --> this was the consequence.

Richard Serra
on a praking lot a big sculpture. Seen from the car on the road, blocking space in the parking lot.

Michael Asher
He made the whole city his playground. Nobody understood what Esscher was after. He moved a used caravan to 14 locations in the city.
The regulation of attention. It took him 5 more years to get invited to the exhibition.

Beuys
He picked the most ugly not designed space of Münster under a bike bridge and filled the left over space between the bridge and the ground with wax (!).

Richard Long
Land art. Hidden catwalk in the grass. Circle of stones.
The advantages of the park.

Donald Judd
(Site specificity - critique of modern art)
A big concrete circle with slopy tops, 2 in eachother. Near the water, on the grass. Dubble ring.

Brücklin
He made an intervention that changed the location with large pieces of stone placed as a little wall next to a church. As a passage and a passage. (Favourite of Grasskamp).

Jean Christophe Armand (?)
The site has to be respected -postmodernist saying.

"You can only judge a site specific work when you've seen the site before."

Fabro
A beautiful pair of lips cut out of stone (big) 2m width 1 m broad.

Baumgarten
3 lights in the top of the church of Münster. As if the former baptist were still alive.
Very popular.

Rebecca Horn
An old war building, now ruined area.

Isa Genzken
Big interventon of a passage. Had to be removed afterwards. (sadly enough)

Sol leWitt
Black cube, in front of a university, monument for the missing Jews.
White piramid, in garden of university (not sure).

Katarina Fritz
Yellow madonna on a sqaure, was attacked by night, but worshipped by daylight.
Not sure why it was attacked or worshipped.

Richard Decan
2 big sculptures, corresponding with non-sites that turned themselves into sites.

Richard Serra
In front of a Baroque town hall, he made a big metal work. 2 halfs.
He already sold his site specific work before shown. While he said about his Tilted Arc in NY: Site specific art should stay site specific.

The wanted to mirror the city.
"Kitch, that lies in the humour"

A hostile looking piece. Big wooden circle 5m high you can look through the holes between the wood ans see a carousel.

There was succes as a problem. Its radicality possible in continuation?

Andrea Ziegman
He bought the Berlin Bears (made by a company to decorate the city), Münich Lions etc.
He destroyed them and made a sculpture out of the broken pieces/

Moving stone over the city.
