Damián Ortega: The Independent New commission for The Curve, Barbican Centre
Barbican Centre.
These sculptures don't work in this space. These are not artworks that you pass by one by one, therefore the sculptures aren't strong enough. In this 'curve' I'd rather use the walls much more since they are the biggest in this space. The floor is quite small in comparison. Very cliché lighting, a spot on every piece. Why not one big stroke of (tl-)lights to give the whole space the same amount of light. Ok, maybe the lighting that I suggested is not applicable for the whole exhibition because there are certain works that are based on the shadow of the sculpture.
Sad fully I can't take a photo of that since I was told off halfway to take photo's.
The objects are shown in a very classic way, about the same space is left between every object, almost all are very clean, except for one where he has been throwing paper to the wall that still sticks to it in ball shaped clumps.
It does not tempt me in any way, nor the work or the presentation.
