Tate Modern, The Turbine Hall: Ai Weiwei
Sunflower Seeds
The turbine hall in the Tate Modern is showing Ai Weiwei's work, a couple million hand made porcelain sunflower seeds.
After they discovered that the dust coming from the porcelain when walking over it isn't good for either the health of visitors, as for the artworks shown in the rest of the museum, they decided
that it is only for looking at.
And that's a damn shame.
I wonder why they have placed all these porcelain seeds in a big rectangle where it is only possbile to view the work from 2 edges. Since it is not allowed to even touch them I would at least made a path through the middle of the rectangle which would contribute to the experience of all these handcrafted reproductions. So it is possible to experience this immense piece of art better in this enormous turbine hall.
